One of these is not like the other

Okay.

That’s a lie.

We are all pretty much the same.

On Day 11 we want to know “How are you different from your parents? How are you the same? Do your parents and/or family know that write on-line?”

The answer to that is easy – My mom and I are practically the same person in more than a few ways. Our biggest differences are that she is shorter than me, wears the wrong shoe size and smokes.

Being the same person is really handy at times, and really not at other times – as you can imagine.

Everyone in my immediate family knows I write on-line (HI!). To be quite honest, I never “got” the point of anonymity on-line, to me, it never felt real. If I don’t want anyone to know – I just don’t blog about it. (which can be hard at times) My mom is convinced I am going to be abducted by aliens or something one day because my blog is “too personal” but it’s my blog and I say what I want.

How about you? Do your family/friends “IRL” know about your on-line writing habits? Why or why not?

  1. I'm a little like my dad and a little like my mom and a little just plain me! Some of that is good, some bad, and some of it just is what it is.

My husband knows I blog though he doesn't read it. I don't think my family knows I blog, but they know I read. I had no idea how many connections I'd make when I started and how kind of close I'd get to people who live far away. But when you think about it, if you blog once a week or so, and read... you're sort of comminicating more with those people that many people you know IRL. I do the semi-anonymous thing so that I can talk about work, family, my vagina (ha!) but mostly it's all out there. I don't think the boogie man is going to come after a boring ole' teacher mom. Or, at least I'd hope not!

Just figured out how to use Kevin and Amanda's fonts. Thanks for the link! Love them!

  3. I love the photo!

I started out pretty cloaked, but realized, as you said, you lose authenticity when you are too tightly closed off.

Thank you for your very kind comment on my blog, Andrea :-).
