I tell them - Gianna.
And then I hear - "Not GiGi"
My Response - "she is not a dog"*
Or - "How about Gia"
Me - "No, She also doesn't grow hair out of her ceramic head with a seed paste."**
I am not a big fan of nicknames, even though I have one, and I don't mind when CERTAIN people [read, people who have known me long enough &/or have been grandfathered in to use it] I will never introduce or refer to myself by it. In fact, even to those who call me by my nickname, I still refer to myself as Andrea. It's just habit I guess.
Something else, I usually use Michael when talking to the husband instead of Mike. I just have a thing about formal names.
If you like nicknames, more power to ya, they can be cute and very fitting. As in my sister, if she went by her formal name it wouldn't fit her personality as well.
However, I have given my daughter a certain name and I would prefer you to call her by it. If one day she wants to go by Gia or GiGi or Earth or whatever, I will still call her Gianna. Or peanut, which we have recently started for some unknown reason. She can call herself whatever she wants.
*yup, i did say this. outloud.
*And yes, she did receive a Chia Pet from her loving grandparents/aunts when she was born....
why would anyone call their dog GiGi? That name is just puke lol. Gianna is beautiful although I have to ask- do you pronounce it Gee-ana or Gee-anna? We've called Kylie peanut since the day she was born and I'm fairly certain she'll be "Peanut" all of her life...or Kylie bug :)
ReplyDeleteOH I AGREE! (i'm hoping i'm one of the ppl who has known you since 2nd grade so i can call you andi)
ReplyDeletethe only reason we call sophia "pia" is because that is what she calls herself and it's what maria called her when she was born. so it just stuck. but i will most likely never call her that when she gets older (mostly b/c it is usually followed by "pee pants" lol) the thing i hate most about them, is that the girls dont have names you would generally...uh...nick? lol. but my grandpa is the worst. he calls maria, marie (and sometimes emma...) and he calls sophia, sophie. at the dr.'s office, maria all of a sudden becomes "mariah". but for some reason, we call jackson, jack but ppl always say jackson. so the one that we want to shorten, ppl wont. idk. you cant win. lol. i'm with you though. if they want to shorten it, go ahead. maria has taken to calling herself "mia". idk why, but w/e. sorry this became so long. :D
and thats not the only chia pet coming her way...
ReplyDeleteI also HATE nicknames. I never got into the "last name calling" and refused to respond when someone called me by mine. I do call Joe, Joe, but only because that is who he is! I totally agree with calling her what you named her!
ReplyDeletelol!! chia pets...
ReplyDeletemy sister has a friend who is gianna and they call her gigi. it is a little pet-esque lol. i love the name gianna in its full!!
uggghh, i agree. i have nicknames, i like nicknames, but only w/ certain people. and it can't be a form of my name like "tiff." it's either tiffanie or something totally different unless someone wants an ass kicking.
ReplyDeleteand gianna is a beautiful name. why wouldn't you use it?
Well Miss A ----- I've been "grandmothered" in !!! Lil Miss G I love you!
